Improve the Health and Function of Your Smile with Treatments in Restorative Dentistry
The primary objective of restorative dentistry is to repair or replace damaged teeth in order to restore health and function to your smile. This encompasses several different procedures, and treatment can vary significantly for each patient, depending on his or her specific needs. At Creative Smiles in Vancouver, WA, Dr. Carl Futenma offers various treatments in restorative dentistry to help his patients enjoy a lifetime of healthy teeth and gums.
One of the most common treatments in dentistry, dental fillings replace weak, broken-down, or decayed tooth structure. At our practice, we exclusively place biocompatible, tooth-colored dental fillings, which blend in seamlessly with your surrounding teeth for a beautiful smile. Many of our patients even choose to have their old silver amalgam fillings replaced with tooth-colored fillings.
Teeth with large fractures, chips, or deep decay can be repaired with dental crowns. We offer several types of crowns at Creative Smiles, from porcelain to zirconia, and we can help you determine which kind will be most beneficial for you. Dental crowns are tooth-shaped restorations that fit over the entire structure, strengthening the tooth and restoring function.
If you are missing a row of teeth, a dental bridge can literally “bridge the gap” in your smile. This restoration is crafted from a solid piece of high-grade dental material, such as ceramic porcelain. There are two dental crowns on either side, with artificial teeth in between. Dental bridges can be supported by natural teeth or by dental implants.
Root Canal Therapy
If the pulp of a tooth becomes infected, it can sometimes be addressed with root canal therapy. This treatment involves removing the infected tissues from within the tooth, including the pulp and nerves. Once the surfaces have been disinfected, the root canals are filled with a rubbery dental material called gutta percha. The tooth is then restored with either a dental filling or crown.
As dental professionals, we prefer to save natural teeth when at all possible. Unfortunately, severe decay, gum disease, or fractures sometimes leave us no other option. To perform a tooth extraction, Dr. Futenma will gently loosen the tooth and lift it from its socket. In most cases, we recommend replacing a tooth that has been extracted. If you do nothing to replace missing teeth, it can have a significant negative impact on your overall oral health and function. If a tooth extraction is necessary, we will discuss your replacement options with you so you can make a well-informed decision.
A dental implant is a small threaded post crafted from surgical-grade titanium. It is used to replace the root of a missing tooth. Currently, dental implants boast the highest success rate of any teeth replacement option in dentistry today. Because an implant mimics a natural tooth root, it stimulates the jawbone and prevents bone atrophy. With proper care and maintenance, dental implants often last a lifetime.
When most people think of orthodontic treatment, they think about the cosmetic benefits it offers. While braces can certainly enhance the appearance of your smile, they also improve your bite and function. When teeth fit together the way they should, all elements work together in harmony for optimal oral health. At Creative Smiles, we offer three types of orthodontic treatment:
- Traditional Braces: This conventional and effective treatment straightens teeth with a combination of metal brackets, wires, and bands.
- Six Month Smiles®: With mechanics similar to traditional braces, Six Month Smiles is a system comprised of clear brackets and tooth-colored wire for a more aesthetic option. This treatment is designed to be completed in approximately six months.
- ClearCorrect®: Patients who wish to straighten their teeth more discreetly can undergo orthodontic treatment with ClearCorrect, which straightens teeth using a series of clear plastic aligner trays.
