Bridges and Dentures in Vancouver, WA

If you are missing teeth, it can have a significant negative impact on your confidence. More importantly, missing teeth can lead to more serious dental issues over time, including shifting and bite problems. When your teeth do not fit together the way they should, your function is severely limited. Fortunately, at Creative Smiles, Dr. Carl Futenma offers several teeth replacement options, including dental bridges and dentures.

About Dental Bridges

Dental bridges are one of the most common teeth replacement options, and are used to replace a row of missing teeth. Crafted from high-grade dental materials, such as ceramic porcelain, a bridge is comprised of two dental crowns with artificial teeth in between. The two crowns are affixed to the natural teeth on either side of the space, and the artificial teeth “bridge the gap” in your smile.

In order to place a traditional bridge, the natural teeth on either side of the space will need to be slightly reduced so that the crowns can be properly attached. However, dental bridges can also be attached to dental implants. An implant-supported bridge is an outstanding option because it does not require the removal of natural enamel.

Generally speaking, bridges are an excellent choice for patients who are missing one to three teeth in a row. If you are missing more than that, you may be better suited for a partial denture or dental implants. Dr. Futenma can help you decide which option will be best for you.

About Dentures

Dentures are a standard replacement option for patients who are missing several or all of their teeth. Because dental materials today are so advanced, dentures look much more natural than they did in years past. Depending on your aesthetic preferences, they can be crafted from an array of materials, from acrylic to high-grade porcelain. At Creative Smiles, we offer a few different types of dentures:

  • Full Traditional Dentures: These conventional dentures replace an entire arch of missing teeth. Depending on the specific case, patients may have an upper denture, a lower denture, or both. They are supported by the gum tissue and the underlying jawbone, and can bring function and aesthetics back to your smile.
  • Partial Dentures: Patients who are missing several sporadic teeth can benefit from a partial denture. Similar to full dentures, partials are supported by the gums and jawbone. However, added stability can be provided by dental clasps that are connected to adjacent teeth.
  • Implant-Supported Dentures: Also designed to replace an arch of missing teeth, implant-supported dentures rest on dental implants rather than the gums and jawbone. This offers significantly more stability when compared to traditional dentures, as patients do not experience as much shifting and movement. Most importantly, dental implants stimulate the jawbone to prevent bone atrophy over the years. Therefore, patients who choose implant-supported dentures can avoid the “sunken in” look that many people develop after years of tooth loss.

Individualized Care for Optimal Treatment Outcome

Each of our patients is unique, bringing their own set of needs to the table. Therefore, treatment can vary from person to person, based on their specific goals. At Creative Smiles, Dr. Futenma gets to know each patient as an individual. Aesthetic goals, budget, and medical history are just some of the factors that go into designing an appropriate treatment plan. Dr. Futenma will work with you to determine a teeth replacement option that will effectively meet your needs and expectations.
