Cleanings and Dental Examinations

The first line of defense against cavity-causing bacteria is a routine dental cleaning schedule. At Creative Smiles, our hygienists are friendly, and enjoy providing a fun dental experience for our younger patients. In addition to a thorough dental cleaning, our team can teach your child how to brush and floss properly, and help them develop an at-home regimen to keep their smiles healthy between visits.

Dr. Futenma also provides regular dental examinations, which can aid in the early detection of cavities. When diagnosed in its early stages, tooth decay can be treated non-invasively, and can sometimes even be reversed.

Children’s Fluoride Treatments

Topical fluoride treatments are an excellent way to prevent cavities. When plaque accumulates on the teeth, it harbors bacteria. These bacteria can become acidic, and dissolve the hard enamel that protects the inner tooth structure. Fluoride can actually remineralize and strengthen the tooth enamel, making it more resilient to cavity-causing bacteria. At Creative Smiles, we offer topical fluoride treatments at every routine visit.

Dental Sealants

The molars and premolars, near the back of the mouth, can sometimes have deep grooves, pits, and fissures on the chewing surfaces. These hard-to-reach areas can trap food, debris, and bacteria, making them more vulnerable to tooth decay.

Dental sealants can be applied to the chewing surfaces of the teeth to protect them from bacteria. Before sealants are applied, the teeth will be cleaned thoroughly to remove any debris. A clear liquid material will then be painted directly on the grooves and pits. Sealants dry quickly, and patients can typically resume eating and drinking as soon as they leave the office.

Pediatric Orthodontics

Many people assume that orthodontic treatment is just for straightening teeth. While braces and other alternative treatments are certainly effective for improving the appearance of your smile, they also restore proper function. When your teeth fit together the way nature intended, everything works in harmony for optimal oral health. At Creative Smiles, we offer:

  • Traditional Braces: A standard for orthodontic care, traditional braces use a combination of band, brackets, and wires to gradually and gently move teeth into their proper positions. This effective treatment can address the most severe issues, including crooked, rotated, and misaligned teeth. On average, orthodontic treatment with traditional braces can be completed within 18 to 24 months, though timelines can vary for each patient.
  • ClearCorrect®: Patients who wish to straighten their teeth discreetly can benefit from ClearCorrect. This system uses a series of clear plastic aligner trays to gently move the teeth. During treatment, Dr. Futenma will closely monitor your progress. Typically, trays are changed out every two to three weeks. The total treatment time can vary drastically depending on the specific case. However, most patients find that the timeline is comparable to that of traditional braces.
  • Six Month Smiles®: A spin-off of traditional braces, Six Month Smiles uses clear brackets and tooth-colored wires to straighten your teeth. As the name suggests, this treatment can usually be completed in about six months.
